Spring cleaning advice on the internet is mostly written for homes in dry, cool climates. Central Arkansas has its own specific rhythm — pollen-heavy springs, brutal humidity from June onward — and a smart spring clean accounts for both.
Step 1: Pollen flush
Late March through April is peak pollen in Little Rock. Once the worst of it has passed, do a pollen flush:
- Replace HVAC filters (use MERV 11-13 if your system allows)
- Wipe down all window tracks and sills
- Vacuum upholstery, including under cushions
- Wash or replace pet bedding
- Run an extra wash cycle on bedding
Step 2: Humidity prep
By May, Central Arkansas humidity starts climbing. Spring is the time to address spots that mildew when it's wet:
- Re-caulk any failing seams in bathrooms
- Clean exhaust fan covers in bathrooms and laundry
- Inspect under sinks for early signs of moisture
- Check basement or crawl-space access for any musty smell
- Run a vinegar cycle through your dishwasher (kills the funk that builds up over winter)
Step 3: Outdoor-adjacent zones
Spring brings more in and out traffic. Mud rooms, entry rugs, garage entries, and back porches all benefit from a real deep clean now.
- Pressure-wash or scrub porch and patio surfaces
- Wash or replace entry mats
- Wipe down storm doors and exterior light fixtures
- Clean window screens (remove, hose, dry, reinstall)
Step 4: The seasonal deep clean
Spring is the best time for the year's first major deep clean. Baseboards, blinds, light fixtures, inside appliances, behind furniture — all the spots that don't get weekly attention. If you're booking a professional service, late April through mid-May is the ideal window.
